Geluidskunstenaar Stefano Murgia bezoekt vanaf jongs af aan graag concerten, maar ziet vanwege zijn lengte vaak enkel de ruggen van andere bezoekers. 'Om onder andere deze reden ben ik gaan nadenken over de manier waarop muziek wordt gepresenteerd en waargenomen.' Na een studie geluidstechniek volgde Murgia een bachelor ArtScience aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Den Haag. In 2017 studeerde hij af met het experimentele onderzoeksproject Acoustics Based on Volume: Aluminium, een geluidsinstallatie bestaande uit een kubus, een bol en een viervlak van aluminium. Als geheel vormen de objecten een nieuw soort instrument met elk een eigen geluid. Door middel van elektronica kunnen de drie vormen worden geactiveerd als akoestische klankkamers. De performatieve installatie werd na zijn afstuderen op verschillende plekken in Europa getoond in tentoonstellingen en op festivals zoals het Amsterdam Dance Event, Prototyp festival in Brno en Spektrum in Berlijn.
De afgelopen periode heeft Murgia gereflecteerd op zijn werkwijze en geïnspireerd op akoestiek (de wetenschap van geluid), een methode bedacht om toekomstige projecten te starten. From a young age, sound artist Stefano Murgia enjoyed attending concerts. Due to his height however, he spent most of his time looking at the backs of the audience. 'That's one of the reasons why I started thinking about how music is presented and perceived,' says Stefano. After studying engineering, Murgia went on to pursue an ArtScience bachelor's at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. He graduated in 2017 with an experimental research project titled Acoustics Based on Volume: Aluminium, a sound installation consisting of a cube, a sphere and a tetrahedron made of aluminium. Together, the objects form a new type of instrument – each with its own sound. With the help of electronics, the three shapes can be transformed into acoustic reverb chambers. After he graduated, the performative installation was exhibited throughout Europe at exhibitions and festivals such as the Amsterdam Dance Event, Prototyp Festival in Brno and Spektrum in Berlin.
